Thymol is a natural, aromatic substance, which occurs mainly in the plants of the mint family, e.g. various types of thyme. It has strong antiseptic and disinfectant effects. It effectively combats bacteria, fungi (moulds), certain viruses and parasites. Its qualities were already known to the Ancient Egyptians, who used it in the process of mummification.
